Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled his new political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking a significant comeback following his recent departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Launched at a vibrant event in Lavington, Nairobi, Gachagua presented DCP as a movement for all Kenyans feeling sidelined by the current regime. The party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans), underscores its focus on inclusive leadership and grassroots engagement.
“I promised to unveil a new party in May 2025, and today, I’ve kept that word,” Gachagua told supporters.
DCP’s symbol is a listening ear, and its official colours—neon green, brown, and white—reflect its commitment to attentiveness and transparency.
Without naming President William Ruto directly, Gachagua launched a scathing critique, accusing the current leadership of neglecting the electorate and embracing sycophancy.
“I detest lies—that’s why I distanced myself from the biggest liar,” he remarked.
Gachagua explained that Skiza Wakenya, also referred to as Skiza Ground, emerged as a response to growing public dissatisfaction with broken promises and unresponsive governance.
“This party belongs to every Kenyan—no one will feel ignored or left behind,” he said.
He vowed to champion a leadership model that listens actively and acts decisively on citizen concerns.
The event was attended by Gachagua’s wife Dorcas, Senator John Methu, and politician Cleophas Malalah.
The formation of DCP signals a new political alliance as Gachagua positions himself alongside opposition leaders like Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa—gearing up for a competitive 2027 General Election.
