The subject of striking a balance between family and career has been topping career related discussions and it is no doubt, if not treated with utmost keenness, it can be costly. For Tanzanian rapper Darassa, the aforementioned subject plunged him in a situation that compelled him to choose between the family and career.
Since his launching into the music industry ten years ago, Darassa was only active in the first three years before devoting his full time to family until now.
In a recent interview on Wasafi FM, the musician, born Shariff Thabit Ramadhan, narrated how his decision to be a full time family man pulled him out of the music scene for seven good years. He further explained that his young family at that time needed his presence most and that the break was good for him as he had enough time to study all the dynamics of the music industry.
“Of the ten years I have been doing music, I have only been active on stage TV and radio for three years, the other seven years I have spent mostly raising my two children,” he said.
Darassa’s first hit in 2014 featured Tanzanian Singer Ben Pol. The song, dubbed ‘sikati tamaa’ did well setting a good foundation for the musician.
Two years later, he soared to success with the release of ‘Utanipenda,’ a sensational song featuring Rich Mavoko. Shortly after, he dropped ‘Muziki,’ a chart-topping hit in collaboration with Ben Pol. Muziki song that has now amased 23Million views on YouTube was the top song that also hit the international waves. The singer did a number of collaborations with notable music icons in Tanzania and East African before going MIA.
Darassa has also ventured into talent management, establishing his own company called Classic Music Group (CMG) Management.
