Deputy Party Leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, Cleophas Malala, has been summoned by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over a controversial helicopter landing incident that occurred during the national secondary school games final.
Malala has been ordered to appear before DCI officers in Kakamega on Friday, August 8, to explain the events surrounding the landing of a helicopter at the centre of Mumias Sports Complex. The incident, which took place during the games, has raised serious concerns over safety, protocol, and potential endangerment of lives.
The helicopter landed in the middle of an active stadium packed with students, teachers, sports officials, and spectators. According to police, the landing disrupted the event and caused panic among attendees, with fears that it could have led to injuries or worse.
Authorities have since launched investigations to establish whether the landing had proper clearance and to determine the motive behind choosing such a high-risk location during a national school event. The Western Region Police Command confirmed the incident and is closely following up on the matter.
