DCI Arrests Koimburi Ally Over Alleged Staged Abduction Plot

Nairobi — Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Cyrus Kieru Muhia, a close associate of Juja MP George Koimburi, over his suspected role in the MP’s alleged abduction.

Muhia, believed to own the silver Subaru Forester seen in CCTV footage during the incident, was apprehended Tuesday night and is currently being questioned at DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the arrest, stating, “He is the owner of the vehicle that allegedly blocked Hon. Koimburi’s car, leading to the reported abduction.”

Koimburi was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, and was found unconscious in a nearby coffee plantation on Monday. He is currently receiving treatment for soft tissue injuries, with family members claiming he was chemically assaulted, resulting in vocal cord damage.

However, investigators have been denied access to the MP by his family, who blocked attempts to assess his condition and speak with medical staff.

The incident has raised suspicions among authorities. Just days earlier, police had obtained approval from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to charge Koimburi in a land fraud case. He reportedly evaded arrest on Friday by fleeing on a motorcycle and switching off his phone.

Police now suspect the abduction may have been staged, though all possibilities remain under investigation. A special DCI team is analyzing the viral video and other evidence.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited Koimburi in hospital, claimed the MP had been tortured, saying he inhaled a chemical that damaged his vocal cords.
