Chaos Erupts as EACC Raids Home of Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya

Kitale – Tensions flared in Kitale early this morning after a raid by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and police officers at the residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya led to violent protests and destruction of property.

The raid, which began shortly before 8 a.m. in Milimani estate, sparked outrage among residents, who quickly gathered in large numbers to protest what they termed as harassment of their governor. Natembeya was not at the residence at the time of the raid.

As the operation continued, angry residents pelted the EACC and police vehicles with stones and deflated their tyres. In the ensuing chaos, at least five vehicles were badly damaged. Photographs from the scene show shattered windows and severely vandalized vehicles.

Police had a difficult time controlling the crowd, which stormed the compound and confronted officers. More security personnel were later deployed to reinforce the operation and restore order as the search inside the home continued.

At the time of reporting, the motive behind the raid remained unclear. EACC officers had yet to release an official statement regarding the operation or what they were searching for in the governor’s home. The situation in the area remains tense, with heightened police presence as investigations continue.

This incident marks a significant escalation in public resistance to anti-corruption operations targeting high-ranking officials, highlighting growing friction between law enforcement agencies and local communities.

The EACC is expected to address the media later today to clarify the purpose of the raid and provide details on any findings or actions to be taken.
