Changamwe Police Step Up Crackdown on Criminal Gangs After Key Arrest

Security operations in Mombasa’s Changamwe Constituency have intensified following the arrest of a notorious robbery suspect, signaling renewed efforts by police to dismantle criminal networks in the area.

The suspect, identified as Stephen Omondi, alias “Omosh,” was captured during a patrol in the BBC area after intelligence officers traced his movements. His arrest comes after months of surveillance targeting organized gangs believed to be behind a string of violent robberies.

According to police reports, the suspect and his accomplices often used machetes and crude weapons to terrorize residents and business owners. The police have now launched a manhunt for his remaining partners in crime, who are said to have gone into hiding.

Residents of Changamwe have welcomed the renewed vigilance, saying insecurity had escalated in recent months, affecting both businesses and evening movement. Local leaders have urged continued collaboration between the public and security agencies to sustain peace and order.

Police officers, on their part, have promised round-the-clock patrols and urged citizens to report suspicious individuals to ensure Mombasa remains safe for all.
