Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed reports claiming it is preparing to exit the Kenyan market, describing a widely circulated notice announcing its closure as fake.
In a statement issued on June 1, 2026, the company said a fraudulent document falsely presented as an official communication from Bolt Kenya had been circulating on social media and messaging platforms. The document claimed that Bolt would cease operations in Kenya on June 8, 2026.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” the company said.
Bolt maintained that its Kenyan operations remain fully functional and that it continues to serve customers and driver-partners across the country.
The company said it is investigating the source of the fabricated notice and will take appropriate action against those responsible for creating and distributing information that misrepresents the business.
In its statement, Bolt sought to reassure stakeholders that its services remain uninterrupted.
“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” the company said.
The firm also urged members of the public, customers, and driver-partners to disregard the circulating document and avoid sharing unverified information. Instead, it advised users to rely on official communications released through its verified channels, including its website, social media accounts, and mobile application.
Bolt further encouraged stakeholders seeking clarification to contact the company directly and follow official updates through its verified platforms.
The statement was signed by Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for East Africa, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Kenyan market amid the circulation of what it described as misleading and false claims regarding its operations.
