Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has warned political leaders with presidential ambitions against using the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as a vehicle for their personal interests.
Atandi stated that anyone eyeing the presidency should form their own political party rather than attempt to use ODM to advance their ambitions. He noted that ODM remains a structured political organization that cannot be manipulated for individual gain.
The MP also dismissed threats from some leaders who have claimed they would leave the party if it entered into a coalition with President William Ruto. He said those threatening to leave are free to do so, since ODM has capable leaders who can take over key roles, including the position of Secretary General.
Atandi’s remarks come amid growing internal tensions within ODM, as the party reviews its direction following recent divisions over political realignments. His comments highlight the increasing pressure on ODM leadership to maintain unity and define the party’s position within Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
The legislator’s statement underscores the ongoing debate among ODM members on whether the party should continue engaging in discussions around a broad-based government or re-establish itself firmly as an opposition force.
