Arati Urges Unity Amid Concerns Over Divisions in Jaramogi Odinga Family

ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati has cautioned against emerging divisions within the family of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, warning that such rifts could undermine the strength and national outlook of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).Speaking on the matter, Arati emphasized that ODM was founded on broad democratic ideals and was never intended to serve the interests of a single family, individual, or community.

He reminded party members that ODM draws its support from all corners of the country and represents Kenyans of diverse ethnic, regional, and social backgrounds.Arati noted that while the Odinga family has played a historic and significant role in Kenya’s political development and in the growth of ODM, the party must remain firmly rooted in inclusivity. According to him, attempts to personalise or “family-ise” the party risk alienating supporters and weakening its national appeal. He called on ODM leaders and members to rise above personal differences and focus on unity, dialogue, and shared values.

Arati stressed that internal divisions, if left unchecked, could distract the party from its core mission of championing democracy, social justice, and good governance.“ODM belongs to all Kenyans,” Arati reiterated, adding that the party’s strength lies in its ability to bring together people from different backgrounds under a common vision.

He urged leaders to set an example by promoting cohesion and mutual respect, especially at a time when the country requires strong and united political institutions.Arati concluded by appealing for calm and sobriety, stating that unity within ODM is not only important for the party’s future but also for the broader national agenda of peace, stability, and inclusive development.
