African heads of state and presidents have expressed solidarity in mourning the death of Namibia’s President Dr. Sam Nujoma, following the tragic news.
On their various Twitter accounts, the leaders shared their deep sadness, with some emphasizing that Nujoma was selfless and dedicated to enhancing development in his country, while also being a hero of liberation through his own efforts.
Kenya’s President, William Ruto, in his tweet, stated that the deceased was a hero who focused on transforming the economy to benefit his people.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Namibia in mourning the passing of their founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma. President Nujoma was a selfless, courageous, and visionary leader who dedicated his life to the liberation and development of his country. Our thoughts and love are with the family and the people of Namibia at this time of grief. Rest in peace, Africa’s hero!” stated President Ruto.
In his condolence message, Zambia’s President said that Nujoma’s legacy as a visionary leader, while focusing on liberation, will live on forever.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Sam Nujoma – freedom fighter, nationalist, Pan-Africanist, and founding President of Namibia. His legacy will live on forever,” stated President Hichilema.
On her part, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu stated that the late Nujoma stood for freedom, justice, and equality. She further highlighted that he was a true Pan-Africanist who ensured that people had access to government services.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Founding President and Father of the Nation of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma. A freedom fighter, a Pan-Africanist, and a dear friend of Tanzania, where he once lived during the struggle for Namibia’s independence, Dr. Nujoma lived a life of service that shaped not only his country’s destiny but also inspired generations to stand up for the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. On behalf of the Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I send my heartfelt condolences.” Said Suluhu
