Uhuru Kenyatta, the country’s fourth president, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria, according to a tweet from Uhuru.

Uhuru was chosen by the African Union (AU) last week to lead a group of 90 people from different AU Member States. Members of the mission include women, young people, independent experts, representatives from civil society organizations, election management bodies, and women.

The African Union Commission (AUC) declares that the African Union Election Observation Mission has begun operations (AUEOM). His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, a former president of the Republic of Kenya, will serve as the AUEOM’s chairman, according to an AU statement.

Members of the team come from AU bodies, including the Pan African Parliament and Permanent Representatives Committee, among others.

The observers’ job, according to the AU, is to provide a fair and accurate assessment of the electoral processes, including a determination of how closely the elections were carried out in conformity with regional, continental, and international norms.

They will also express the AU’s solidarity and support for the consolidation of democracy, peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria while offering advice on how to improve upcoming elections. On Friday, February 25, Nigerians will vote to elect a new president.
