Gachagua Accuses Ruto Administration of Divide-and-Rule Tactics Ahead of 2027 Campaign

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his critique of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing the government of resorting to divisive tactics to distract from pressing economic and social challenges.

Speaking during a political tour in Kajiado County, Gachagua asserted that the current administration is failing to address fundamental needs, such as access to affordable public services and healthcare.

“When an administration fails to deliver services, it resorts to pitting communities against one another through a divide-and-rule tactic,” Gachagua said in a public statement following the event. “Kenyans simply want a government that meets their basic needs: free education, better working conditions, and accessible healthcare.”

The remarks follow a series of media appearances in which the former Deputy President dismissed recent squabbles within rival political camps as “petty politics,” reiterating his intent to position himself as a national presidential contender in 2027.

Addressing ongoing opposition realignments, Gachagua maintained that the DCP continues to build momentum following recent local by-election turnouts, encouraging democratic competition while calling for a united opposition front. He further revealed that opposition leaders plan to finalize their presidential flagbearer decision in the coming months as coalition talks with movements like Linda Mwananchi progress.

Gachagua also addressed rumors regarding potential talks with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that while no formal meeting was planned, he retains the right to seek consultations with past national leaders when necessary.
