NCBA has integrated its banking services with Kenya Power’s *977# platform, allowing customers to purchase prepaid electricity tokens and settle postpaid bills directly from their bank accounts. The service offers an additional payment option without requiring customers to open a separate banking application or transfer money to a mobile money wallet.
The integration, reported on October 28, 2026, uses Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) technology. Customers can dial *977#, select NCBA as their payment option and complete their transactions without mobile internet access.
The development provides NCBA customers with another way to manage routine electricity payments for households and businesses. It also places bank account payments within Kenya Power’s existing customer service platform.
NCBA Group Director of Retail Banking Dennis Njau said the integration was intended to make banking more accessible through services customers use regularly. The arrangement reduces the steps involved in paying electricity bills.
Kenya Power already supports electricity payments through mobile money and other banking channels. The NCBA integration therefore introduces an additional payment route rather than a new digital payment service for the utility.
The service enables customers to access the payment option using a mobile phone through the short code. It does not require a separate banking app or an internet connection to complete the transaction.
