Safaricom’s M-PESA platform recorded 46.2 billion transactions in the 2026 financial year, representing a 28.7% increase from the previous period. The growth came as active customers and demand for digital financial services continued to rise.
The mobile money platform had 41.7 million active customers over a 30-day period, up 16.5% from 35.8 million in the previous financial year. The total value of transactions increased by 1.2% to KSh41.6 trillion.
M-PESA also recorded significant growth in its wealth management services, with assets under management rising by 115.3% to KSh21.1 billion. The number of active wealth management customers increased from 600,000 in the 2025 financial year to 2.2 million in 2026.
The platform’s merchant network also expanded, with the number of merchant businesses rising by 73.9% to 3.13 million from 1.8 million in the previous financial year. Safaricom’s measurement from 2025 combined Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi la Biashara merchants, unlike earlier years when only Lipa Na M-PESA merchants were counted.
Consumer credit adoption also grew sharply during the period. The number of customers using M-PESA consumer credit services more than doubled to 17.7 million from 7.9 million in the 2025 financial year and 7.3 million in 2024.
The four-year performance data shows that M-PESA’s monthly active customer base grew from 32.1 million in 2023 to 32.4 million in 2024 before accelerating in the subsequent two years. Annual transaction volumes also increased from 21 billion in 2023 to 28.3 billion in 2024 and 35.9 billion in 2025, before reaching 46.2 billion in 2026.
Meanwhile, the value of transactions stood at KSh42.6 trillion in 2023 before falling to KSh40.1 trillion in 2024. It recovered to KSh41.1 trillion in 2025 before reaching KSh41.6 trillion in 2026.
M-PESA’s wealth management assets also expanded from KSh800 million in 2023 to KSh1.8 billion in 2024 and KSh9.8 billion in 2025. The latest figures show further growth as Safaricom expands its mobile money services across payments, credit and investment products.
