Kenya has added two technology and academic experts to the board of the National Cybersecurity Agency. Lorna A. Omondi Ogolla and her counterpart Dr Joy Kibor bring experience in data centres, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Ogolla brings extensive experience from Google and the global technology sector. Kibor, meanwhile, adds expertise in cybersecurity research, teaching and academia.
Ogolla’s career has included studies at Kenya High School, MIT, the University of Cambridge and Stanford. She later spent eight years at Google, where she rose to lead teams advising on global data centre investments.
Her work involved advising Google on where, when and what data centres to build. The decisions were linked to billions of dollars in annual investment. Since 2024, Ogolla has been based in Nairobi. She leads Google Research’s machine-learning and AI partnerships for Africa.
Kibor brings a different technology background to the board. Her career includes experience at Kenya Power and a tutorial fellowship at Kenyatta University.
She also spent four years teaching cybersecurity and AI at Kiriri Women’s University. She later completed a PhD and became Head of Postgraduate Studies in ICT at Zetech University.
The appointments therefore bring corporate technology experience together with academic expertise. Ogolla offers exposure to digital infrastructure and major technology investments, while Kibor adds research and teaching experience.
The two appointments could strengthen the board’s understanding of emerging digital risks. They also bring expertise in AI, cybersecurity and technology infrastructure as Kenya continues to expand its digital economy.
