Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto offered him Ksh2 billion to resign from his government position. Speaking during a Tuesday morning interview with Western radio stations in Karen, Nairobi, Gachagua claimed he was also impeached for being vocal about issues affecting Kenyans.
According to Gachagua, MPs were allegedly given Ksh500,000 each, while Senators received Ksh10 million to support his removal from office.
“The president told me to quit and take Ksh2 billion to continue with my business and have security. He also suggested I could vie in the future, but I wondered why he was planning my future while pushing me out,” Gachagua stated.
Despite his ouster, the former DP dismissed claims that he is worried about a government plot to block him from contesting in 2027. He insisted that vying for political office is not a priority.
“The idea that I cannot vie because I was impeached is not my concern. It is not a must for me to contest, but my right to do so cannot be taken away,” he asserted.
Gachagua also criticized the government’s failure to address rising cases of abductions in the country. He revealed that he had raised the issue while still in office but no action was taken.
He accused Ruto of hypocrisy, noting that while the president calls for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenyans continue to face extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances.
“Our young people are simply questioning the direction of the country and the struggling economy. That is their right,” Gachagua remarked.
