ODM leader Raila Odinga has claimed that it was Uhuru Kenyatta who called him to reach out to President William Ruto to stop the deadly protests that almost destabilized the government a few months ago. Odinga spoke while attending the funeral of the father of embattled IEBC Commissioner Irene Masit in Sitotwo, Elgeyo Marakwet.
According to Raila Odinga, Uhuru called him and told him that they needed to sit down with the president to address the issues that Kenyans were demanding. This is the reason he reached out to President Ruto to resolve the issues that Gen-Z were raising.
“It was Uhuru who called me to talk to Ruto. Knowing Ruto, Uhuru, and Mudavadi, I reached out to them in an effort to persuade them to listen to what Kenyans were saying. The nation was burning, and we needed a remedy to resolve the crisis. I told him that Kenyans wanted the Cabinet secretaries sacked because they were incapable of doing the job. Ruto also reached out to me, but I told him that your police were using live bullets against protestors, which is why Kenyans are getting more angrier. Ruto listened, and he disbanded the Cabinet. This was good move but we need to have a convention like we did in previous years.” Odinga said
Despite recent rumors that Raila Odinga and William Ruto were involved in a handshake, the former prime minister stated that there was no handshake and that he is not part of the government. Only Ruto asked for ODM experts to assist him in bringing more sanity to his government.
