Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has resigned as Inspector General of National Police a day after President William Ruto dismissed his cabinet.
Koome was in the limelight after police were accused of brutality during the anti-Ruto protests which took place last week.
Police were also implicated in the abductions of social media users who were calling on the government to drop the finance bill, as well as the deaths of several youths during the anti-finance bill demonstrations witnessed across the country.
According to a press release issued by the State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, Koome will be replaced by Douglas Kanja in an acting capacity.
