The Ministry of Education has postponed the opening of schools for one week due to floods ravaging several parts of the country.
According to a press statement issued by the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Ezekiel Machogu, the decision was made after reports from their field officers on several incidences of floods in the country posing security threats to learners.
“Based on the assessment by our field officers, the Ministry of Education has resolved to postpone the opening of primary and secondary schools by one week to Monday, May 2024,” read the statement.
Despite the announcement made by the ministry, several Kenyans have decried the late announcement, saying that several students had already traveled to various schools as of yesterday.
Several people have already been affected by floods, with the latest incident being in Mai Mahiu, where more than 50 people were swept away by floods.
