Kenya’s Mobile Data Subscriptions Rise to 64.3 Million as Internet Use Expands

Kenya’s mobile data subscriptions rose to 64.3 million by June 2026, up from 58.6 million a year earlier, according to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).

The Authority said the growth reflects an increase in the number of Kenyans connecting to the internet through their mobile phones. As more people go online, mobile internet is providing access to opportunities in employment, education, business and other services.

“From searching for jobs to learning new skills and running businesses, mobile internet keeps everyday opportunities within reach,” the Authority said in its post.

The increase of 5.7 million subscriptions over the year comes as mobile phones remain an important channel for internet access. People can use their phones to search for employment opportunities, while others can access learning materials and develop new skills.

Businesses can also use mobile internet to support their operations and reach customers. At the same time, users can access various services online without having to rely entirely on physical locations.

The Authority described the trend as part of efforts towards “Connecting Kenyans”, while noting that more people are accessing the internet through their phones.

However, the growing number of mobile data subscriptions also increases the importance of affordable and reliable internet access. This is because more people are depending on connectivity for activities that affect their daily lives.

“As more people go online, making internet access affordable and reliable matters even more,” the Authority said.
