Former Laikipia County Governor and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board Chairman Ndiritu Muriithi [has been elected unopposed as the new leader of the Kenya Reform Party (KRP)], positioning manufacturing and ward-level mass production at the center of the party’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Muriithi’s election was formally ratified during the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) in Nairobi on Sunday, September 28. Accepting the leadership role, Muriithi outlined KRP’s economic blueprint anchored on seven core pillars designed to boost household incomes and accelerate nationwide value addition. Central to his declaration was a proposal to establish a KSh 150 billion market-led mass production fund aimed at constructing modern industrial parks across all 47 counties and localized production hubs in all 1,450 electoral wards.
“No amount of name-calling is going to solve economic problems, create jobs, or increase income for the people,” [Muriithi said during his acceptance address]. “Therefore, rather than spending time in that manner, we call on other political formations to focus on structural transformation and economic empowerment.”
The former governor, a seasoned economist, emphasized that transforming Kenya’s economic trajectory requires a fundamental mindset shift focused on productivity rather than political sloganeering. By establishing manufacturing infrastructure at the ward level, Muriithi argued that local agricultural produce and raw materials could be processed domestically, generating sustainable youth employment and widening the national tax base.
Political observers view Muriithi’s entry into party leadership as a strategic move to offer an economics-focused third force in Mount Kenya and national politics. KRP delegates affirmed their commitment to building strategic coalitions with like-minded political movements as party organs prepare for extensive nationwide voter mobilization drives ahead of the 2027 polls.
