Interior CS Kithure Kindiki Says The Government Is To Review Police Officers Employment Terms

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said that it has come to his attention that the employment terms of police officers have not been reviewed for nearly ten years despite the hardships of their profession.

He has noted that the review is going to include all officers adding that the move will help to improve the welfare of security forces countrywide.

Addressing a press conference at his Harambee House office in Nairobi on Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki noted the various hardships police officers endure in their line of duty.

“Majority of our officers continue to serve this nation in difficult circumstances, many of them protect our people in risky circumstances and have lost their lives. I will defend and protect our officers who legally undertake their duties,” he said.

“Shortly the government will initiate a process of re-looking at the terms and conditions of our officers, nearly for ten years the terms of officers have not been reviewed. This review will include all officers,” the CS added.

Kindiki who was briefing on the state of security in the country also said the government is deploying a multi-agency response to get rid of criminals who have taken over the streets of Nairobi to terrorise members of the public.

This comes amid increased cases of criminal activities especially muggings within the city.

“We have witnessed increasing criminal activity within Nairobi. Small group of criminals armed with knives and other weapons is terrorizing the citizens of this city as well as other urban centres. Those boys who have dared the government and want to tell us that they can take over the city and make it a city of crime. We have also heard you and therefore we are coming after you effective immediately,” said Kindiki.
