Wahu Calls Out The Church Over Self-Righteous Behaviour

Title: Wahu’s Journey: From Misjudgment to Empowerment

Once upon a time, in the vibrant city of Nairobi, a young and ambitious girl named Wahu Kagwi embarked on a journey that would shape her life in ways she never imagined. Wahu, known for her angelic voice and captivating stage presence, was determined to make her mark in the music industry.

In her twenties, Wahu found herself falling head over heels in love with a charming little one-bedroom apartment. It seemed like the perfect place for her to nurture her dreams and create a home for herself. However, fate had a different plan in store for her. The apartment was owned by a Christian organisation, and their self-righteousness cast a dark cloud over Wahu’s aspirations.

Wahu

“I once secured the CUTEST little one bedroom apartment as a young girl in my twenties, & was in love with everything about the house, which happened to be owned by a Christian organization. Struggled and put together the down payment and signed the contract.” said Wahu on her official Facebook account

Struggling and determined, Wahu managed to gather the necessary funds for the down payment and signed the contract, eagerly anticipating the beginning of a new chapter in her life. But then, a phone call shattered her dreams. The voice on the other end explained, with thinly veiled prejudice, that she was no longer welcome because she was a musician. They judged her as a single young girl who loved to sing, assuming she would bring undesirable elements into their community. Without giving her a chance to prove herself, they callously ‘evicted’ her before she even had the opportunity to move in.

“Then one day, someone called me and told me I couldn’t move in.The reason being that I’m a musician (they didn’t say it to my face, but it was obvious). Unfortunately, I was judged as a single young girl who loves to sing, so labda ntakua naleta wababa, ama ntakua nalewa kila siku, I donno. A look they didn’t want to associate with, so even without giving me a chance to show them who I was, I was ‘evicted’ before I moved in,” added the iconic musician

Devastated by this cruel rejection, Wahu could have allowed bitterness to consume her. Instead, she chose to channel her pain and frustration into her music, pouring her heart into every lyric and melody. Her talent and determination began to garner attention, propelling her to success in the Kenyan music scene. Wahu’s powerful voice became a beacon of hope for countless young people who faced similar prejudice and judgment.

Fifteen years passed, and Wahu’s career flourished. She married her soulmate, the renowned musician Nameless, and together they became a power couple, admired for their love, talent, and commitment to each other. Amidst her personal and professional triumphs, Wahu received an unexpected proposition from the same Christian organization that had once turned her away.

They sought her to be their brand ambassador, believing that her balanced persona and role model status would be an asset to their cause. Although time had healed Wahu’s wounds, she felt an uneasy hesitation deep within her soul. Declining the offer, she chose to stay true to her convictions.

“Flash forward 15 or so years later…the same institution approached me, to be their brand ambassador. Sasa juu I appear ‘balanced’ and a ‘good role model’ the association made sense to them. I declined the offer even though nilikua nishaa wasamehe na nika move on, it didn’t feel right…” read her Facebook status update in part

To Wahu, actions spoke louder than words. Being labeled a Christian meant nothing if it didn’t translate into genuine compassion and acceptance. She firmly believed that the church, like Jesus himself, should embrace wayward souls and guide them towards redemption and love.

As the years rolled on, Wahu’s influence extended beyond her music career. She established her own successful business, an empowerment platform that aimed to uplift and support young women. Through her personal experiences and unwavering spirit, she became a beacon of hope, empowering others to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams relentlessly.

Wahu’s journey, from being misjudged and rejected to becoming a symbol of empowerment and resilience, prove that one’s true worth cannot be determined by superficial judgments. Her recently narrated story of that phase in her life challenges the notion of self-righteousness within religious institutions and remindes society of the power of acceptance, love, and second chances.

Today, Wahu Kagwi continues to be an inspiration, not only through her music and business endeavours, but also through her unwavering commitment to spreading kindness and compassion. Her voice resonates with authenticity and strength, reminding the world that true faith is demonstrated through actions, not mere words.

“Actions speak louder than words. Saying you’re a Christian means nothing if your actions don’t add up. I really was not the young girl they had judged me to be, and even if I was, shouldn’t the church love such ‘wayward’ people as Jesus did?” said Wahu Kagwi
