Acclaimed, award-winning South African comedian, Tumi Morake and Tanzania’s foremost female comedian Neyla Manga shared the stage with the glamorous, relatable and truly Kenyan acts; Ciru Mwangi, Nelly Wangechi and Mama Ngina, all hosted by the witty Shazz Nderitu in a celebration of womanhood, side-splitting jokes and scintillating banter.

In shows that transcended cultural boundaries and offered a delightful blend of observational humor, wit and poignant insights into the human experience, each comedian brought a distinct flavor to the stage, captivating the audience with tales of everyday life, societal norms, and the absurdities of the modern world.

Heading the line-up, Tumi Morake is renowned for her groundbreaking achievements including her success as the first African woman to feature in her own Netflix special and as the inaugural female host of Comedy Central Presents in Africa.

Commenting on the Girls Aloud comedy show, she said, “This weekend was an incredible experience. The energy from the audience was palpable, and sharing the stage with such talented fellow comedians was a true honor. At moments like this, we see the true power of comedy to unite us, and the strength of laughter in bringing people together.”

” As we build the standup comedy scene, the significance of women’s voices in the craft cannot be overstated. Partnering with Gilbey’s is a true testament to the commitment that Punchline Comedy has in creating safe, progressive spaces that are not just accommodating but encouraging for diverse ideas and voices. This event truly showcased the brilliance and hilarity of women in comedy, and we are privileged to be front and center witnessing the future unfold,” Said Eric Lu Sava, Head of Operations, Punchline Comedy Club.

“Hosting ‘Girls Aloud’ was a momentous occasion for Gilbey’s Gin. Witnessing the laughter and heartfelt connection among the audience reaffirmed our commitment to fostering diversity and empowerment in the entertainment sphere. This event wasn’t just about comedy; it was a celebration of resilience, talent, and the vibrant spirit of women.” Said Zipporah Ndung’u, Gilbey’s Brand Manager, EABL.

In the more intimate setting of Two Grapes Wines & Friends, a Sunday matinee welcomed attendees to another round of hilarious jokes and a chance to interact more closely with the world-class line-up, a testament to the power of laughter to unite and uplift communities.

As part of Gilbey’s ongoing efforts to enhance the entertainment landscape and empower women in the industry, ‘Girls Aloud’ delivered an unforgettable evening of laughter and celebration, leaving a lasting impact on the Kenyan comedy scene. Weekly comedy nights are continuing to celebrate women in comedy throughout International Women’s Month.
