The Singleton Joins Dining In The Dark To Honour The Visually Impaired

The Singleton, a premium single malt whisky known for its smooth and refined flavour partnered with Dining in the Dark, a unique and immersive dining concept where guests experience their meals blind folded. The event served as a demonstration of the challenges faced by the visually impaired while raising funds for visual impairment causes.

“The evening was more than a culinary event but offered an invitation into a different way of perceiving the world. The guests were immersed in a world that allowed them to sharpen their other senses and gain an understanding of the life of the visually impaired. As a brand, we are committed to supporting causes that allow consumers to engage with their senses since the act of savouring whisky asks you to engage with your senses,” said Simon Lapyem, The Singleton Brand Manager.

The evening began with two cocktail options, curated by Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador, Paul Gachoi. The Dufftown Sour, a fresh and citrusy cocktail and the warm and the spicy Singleton Escapes that perfectly brought to life The Singleton’s refined and versatile character.

This was followed by a five–course menu curated by Chef Emmanuel of the Karen Country Club. The starter was a vibrant pickled Beetroot and Feta salad. The entree included a Peruvian Supreme Chicken and Grilled Mini Beef Steaks accompanied by a rich Singleton 12-Year Jus sauce. This was followed with the mains, featuring Pan-Seared Red Snapper Fillet and Risotto Aranchini and a trio of desserts made of Orange Chocolate Gateaux, Apple tart and Tiramisu. The dessert was paired with caramel tuiles infused with Singleton 15YO, that enhanced the deep and fruity notes of the whisky.

The true impact of the evening extending beyond the plate as guests were served by visually impaired wait staff, transforming it into an educational experience. Ultimately, the event demonstrated how the absence of one sense can heighten the others, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the present. This thoughtful approach reflected Singleton’s commitment to building partnerships that foster inclusivity and support vital causes.
