Tharaka Nithi: 2 Police Officers Beaten To Death By Mob

Two police officers met their deaths on Saturday, April 29, evening after being pounced on by a mob at Tharaka Nithi market centre.

According to the Deputy County Commissioner Julius Arap Too, the officers who were not in uniform at the time, were mistaken for thieves by locals.

Too stated that the officers had gone to arrest a mobile money shop attendant who raised the alarm and a mob arrived minutes later.

“I can confirm that two people, reportedly police officers attached to Kathwana police station, have been killed by a mob at Kanthanje market.” Too said.

“We are yet to confirm their identity. I have personally taken an injured civilian to St. Orsola Hospital in Materi,” he added.

The mobile money shop attendant was also reported to have sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Joseph Muchiri stated that investigations were underway, but the victims were yet to be identified.
