Suspected Serial Killer Nabbed After Gruesome Murders at Kenyatta Hospital

Panic has gripped Kenyatta National Hospital after homicide detectives arrested Kennedy Kalombotole, a suspected serial killer linked to two brutal murders inside hospital wards. The suspect was apprehended following the killing of Edward Maingi Ndegwa, who was found dead under mysterious and gruesome circumstances in Ward 7B, Group C (Male) on July 17, 2025.

Edward, who had been admitted on July 11, appeared stable during nurse and family visits earlier in the day. But just after 2:00 p.m., a cleaner discovered blood pooling around his neck, triggering an immediate alarm.

Detectives responding to the scene followed blood-stained slipper prints from the deceased’s bedside to a nearby toilet, then to a side room—shockingly, the same room where Kalombotole was admitted. Inside, police recovered a pair of blue slippers, a blood-stained bedsheet, and outside the building, beneath the 7th floor window, a knife wrapped in gloves, all of which have been submitted to the National Forensic Laboratory for analysis.

Investigations have now linked Kalombotole to the earlier unsolved murder of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, 40, in Ward 7C, during the night of February 6–7, 2025. He had been admitted to the facility since December 1, 2024.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had previously directed further investigations into Kalombotole’s potential involvement in that case. With new evidence emerging, detectives have reopened the case with renewed urgency.

Kalombotole remains in custody and is undergoing formal processing, pending arraignment. Authorities have heightened security within the hospital as investigations continue into what could be one of the most chilling cases of serial killings within a medical facility in recent Kenyan history.
