Ruto Commissions Affordable Housing Project in Migori, Highlights Benefits for Local Residents

President William Ruto on Monday commissioned an Affordable Housing project in Kuria West Constituency, Migori County, underscoring its direct impact on improving the lives of local residents. The project, launched at Mabera Grounds, saw the handover of 60 housing units to beneficiaries, with the President noting that the programme is designed to provide decent, affordable homes while uplifting rural communities.

Ruto said the initiative offers residents an opportunity to access organised and modern housing within their locality, reducing the need for unplanned settlements and improving access to essential services such as roads, water, and electricity.

He emphasised that the Affordable Housing Programme is tailored to meet the needs of ordinary wananchi by making home ownership more accessible, especially for low- and middle-income earners. At the same time, the President linked the project to agricultural sustainability, explaining that structured housing will help curb excessive land sub-division.

He noted that this will allow families to preserve larger portions of land for farming, boosting food production and household incomes in the region.“The Affordable Housing Programme, especially in rural areas, will greatly help reduce land fragmentation and ensure enhanced farming activities,” he said.Leaders present at the event supported the initiative, highlighting its role in driving local development.

He was accompanied by a number of leaders including Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi together with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Senator Eddy Oketch who both welcomed the development.

The commissioning adds to the government’s nationwide Affordable Housing rollout aimed at bridging the housing gap while promoting sustainable and well-planned communities
