Ruto Appeals for Unity, Ethics Amid Rising Abduction Concerns

President William Ruto has urged all sectors of society to collaborate in fostering a compassionate, responsible, and patriotic citizenry. Speaking during a national address, Ruto emphasized the importance of the family as the cornerstone of moral and societal values, supported by the broader community, faith-based organizations, the education system, and law enforcement institutions.

“As a society, we expect the next generations, enriched by socio-economic, scientific, and technological progress, to bring greater energy, better ideas, and a stronger commitment to our shared values,” Ruto said. He called for humane, responsible citizens whose actions uphold unity, democracy, and the rule of law.

Ruto also reiterated his invitation to stakeholders from all walks of life to join a national dialogue aimed at countering moral decay and resetting the nation’s moral compass. “An all-of-society approach is essential to addressing this challenge,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the opposition party ODM, led by acting party leader Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, has issued a stern warning against alleged police abductions. Nyong’o condemned the practice, calling for an immediate end and threatening to organize demonstrations if the state fails to act. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga echoed these sentiments, urging the President to intervene and demanding the resignation of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja for alleged failures in curbing the vice.

Kanja, however, denied police involvement, dismissing the allegations as propaganda. “The police are mandated to arrest offenders and maintain law and order. Any claims beyond this are baseless,” he asserted.

The debate over abductions continues to fuel tension, with calls for accountability and justice dominating public discourse.
