Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio party, has asked Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to allow the Minority side to have its preferred leadership in the House.
Raila told the media at Parliament Buildings that Kingi should allow the opposition to have the leadership it desires in the House. “The Senate faces leadership challenges. “Political party leadership should not be meddled with,” he said.
He questioned why Kingi has not yet made changes to the Senate even if Azimio chose new House leaders. He emphasized that political parties ought to be free to alter their House leadership without hindrance.
“A political party should not be tampered with when making reforms. We are requesting that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance be given the freedom to alter its leadership as they see fit, whether it be from the Speaker or anyone else, he added.
Sens. Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), Enock Wambua (Kitui), and Edwin Sifuna were present (Nairobi). According to Raila, Parliament has no business granting court orders. As the Minority Whip who had been targeted for removal, Fatuma Dullo (Isiolo) moved to the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) to contest Azimio’s decision to fire her. Kingi failed to disclose the changes in the House’s leadership, prompting Raila’s objection.
Kingi had asserted that the letter asking him to maintain the status quo while the lawsuit was heard and decided was authored by Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo.
