Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has revealed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will consider former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s offer to join forces with him.
Speaking on NTV’s Fixing the Nation, Wanga stated that Odinga would evaluate all political alignments before making a decision. “We have seen the former Deputy President and others saying, ‘Raila, can you make up your mind?’ We are going to look at all those things and see what aligns with our beliefs,” she remarked.
Gachagua recently indicated he was open to working with Odinga, emphasizing that his offer was unconditional. This comes amid heightened political maneuvering following Odinga’s loss in the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson election, which would have kept him out of the 2027 presidential race.
Wanga, however, cautioned against an alliance with Gachagua due to his past controversial remarks. “If someone says, ‘our region will sweep seats in a place like Nairobi,’ then we get very afraid because ODM has always been a national movement,” she noted.
Odinga’s next political move remains unclear, with speculation rife on whether he will align with Gachagua, solidify his presence in President William Ruto’s administration, or chart an independent course.
With the 2027 elections approaching, key political figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua, are also exploring potential alliances to challenge Ruto’s leadership. The political landscape continues to shift as leaders position themselves for the high-stakes contest.
