Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio La Umoja, has canceled the planned Wednesday afternoon Kamukunji mega rally, citing police hostility toward nonviolent protestors.
Odinga said this while issuing a statement at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation Center, where he decried police use of excessive force on the peaceful protestors who took to the streets to demonstrate over the cost of living.
“ Police brutality has been evident where our supporters have been injured, maimed, and killed as they exercise their constitutional rights in parts of Kenya and Nairobi.
We want to tell Ruto that he is slowly degenerating into a dictator through his heinous acts. And his failure to listen to the people of Kenya”
The former prime minister declared that the high cost of living had a negative impact on the populace and urged Ruto to revoke the financial bill that would burden the general public. He further called on supporters to remain calm as they issue the next direction on their cause of action.
Thousands of Kenyans took to the streets to demand that the government take their plight into consideration by lowering basic commodity prices.
