ODM leader Raila Odinga has defended his move to join the government under William Ruto.
Earlier this month, Raila Odinga signed a memorandum of understanding together with President William Ruto. The two leaders agreed to work together last year after the Gen Z demonstrations, and then ODM were awarded cabinet slots. Raila Odinga was heavily criticised for the move by Kenyans and his former Azimio counterparts, who accused him of only caring for himself.
Speaking while in Kilifi , Raila Odinga defended his move and insisted that the country must move forward. “In the last election, we were with Martha, and we toured this entire region seeking votes, but you all know what happened later. However, that is in the past; the country must move forward.” he said.
Martha Karua, on his end, insisted that she would remain on the side of the people and defend the people. “But when you merge the minority side and the majority side, like it is happening in broad-based, you deny people the power to question government. I still request them to do what the law says, which is a coalition registered under the Registrar of Political Parties,” Karua said.
