President William Ruto Restructures His Media Team

President William Ruto’s Presidential Communication Service (PCS) director, David Mugonyi, has made a number of changes.

On Monday night, the Head of State appointed those who had been abruptly dismissed from the administration of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. This order replaces Executive Order No.1 of 2022, which was issued on October 12, 2022, and “delegated the following functions and institutions to Ministries and State Departments.”

The President’s Public Communications Secretary is Munyori Buku, who was formerly PSCU’s director of public relations. As President Ruto’s messaging secretary and speechwriter, Eric Ngeno will be in charge of writing speeches for the head of state.

Dennis Itumbi held the role of Head of Digital and Innovations Secretary before to his dismissal under the previous administration. David Nzioka has since been appointed to fill that position.

Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) communications director Wanjohi Githae has been named public communications director. James Kinyua, who served as the director of branding and events under Kenyatta, assumed the same position under Ruto.

Hussein Mohamed, the spokesperson for the White House, and David Mugonyi, the head of the Presidential Communication Service (PSC), were both separated by the head of state. Hussein Mohammed, the State House spokesperson, was chosen to replace David Mugonyi, the head of the Presidential Communication Service, in accordance with the previous Executive Order.

The new executive order, however, means that the State House spokesperson’s executive office will be distinct from the Presidential Communication Secretary’s office, streamlining and removing bureaucracy in State House communication. The State House Spokesperson will oversee a group of communicators and researchers and act as a point of contact for other departments.
