President Ruto Travels to Kampala for AU Agriculture Summit Focused on Food Security and Transformation

President William Ruto has departed for a one-day official visit to Kampala, Uganda, to participate in the African Union Extraordinary Summit. The meeting focuses on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), a pivotal AU Agenda 2063 initiative aimed at eradicating hunger and poverty through agriculture-led development and the transformation of Africa’s agri-food systems.

The summit seeks to evaluate progress toward CAADP’s targets and adopt the Kampala Declaration, which envisions the transformation of agri-food systems across the continent from 2026 to 2035. The anticipated outcomes include shaping policies to drive economic growth and strengthen food security in Africa.

During the event, President Ruto is set to showcase Kenya’s ongoing efforts to bolster food security, reduce poverty, create jobs, and promote sustainable growth. He will also emphasize aligning CAADP with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030, reaffirming the nation’s dedication to agricultural development.

On the sidelines, President Ruto is scheduled to meet with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and other regional leaders to discuss shared priorities and advance regional integration. The discussions will also focus on rallying support for Ruto’s role as the Champion of AU Institutional Reforms, ahead of his inaugural progress report on the reform agenda.

This summit marks another step in President Ruto’s commitment to regional collaboration and agricultural transformation, vital for addressing food security challenges and fostering sustainable development in Africa.
