Three newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries, Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture), Lee Kinyanjui (Trade), and William Kabogo (ICT), were sworn in on Friday at State House, Nairobi. This follows their approval by Members of Parliament on Thursday, marking a significant step in President William Ruto’s push for a broad-based government.
In his address, President Ruto tasked the new CSs with advancing the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), emphasizing the importance of their roles in driving the administration’s economic goals.
“I am confident in the skills and capabilities they bring to their new roles. Without exception, all three CSs have extensive and diverse experience in legislative and executive public service,” Ruto said. He noted his familiarity with Kabogo and Kagwe, both of whom served alongside him in the 9th Parliament, while Kinyanjui joined the legislature during the 10th Parliament.
The reshuffle and appointments are part of efforts to foster inclusivity and promote national unity. The three CSs bring varied expertise: Kagwe, who previously served as Health CS under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, now takes charge of Agriculture. Kinyanjui, a former one-term Nakuru governor, assumes the Trade docket. Kabogo, known for his tenure as Kiambu governor from 2013 to 2017, will lead the ICT sector, focusing on strengthening data protection laws.
President Ruto expressed confidence in their ability to implement BETA policies already underway across the country.
This reshuffle highlights Ruto’s commitment to advancing his administration’s economic agenda while ensuring diverse representation within the Cabinet.
