President William Ruto Claims That African Countries Require Funding In The Fight Against Climate Change.

African nations, according to President William Ruto, require financial and technical assistance in the fight against climate change.

On September 21, while serving as head of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government meeting on climate change, Ruto made the comments.

In his speech, Ruto argued that while African countries generate less than 4% of harmful emissions, they are the most affected region.According to Ruto, other African Heads of State, “African countries will need financial and technical support for a just transition to low carbon, clean technology to boost our industrial and productive sectors like agriculture, infrastructure development, and job creation.”

“Despite our contribution of less than 4% of total emissions, the recently published Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report confirmed that Africa is affected more than other regions by climate change,” he continued.

Ruto claims that Egypt will host CoP27 of the UNFCCC this year, and he has praised the Egyptian president for accepting the responsibility.

I would want to express my gratitude to H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for taking the initiative to host the event in Sham El Sheik this November on behalf of Africa.

Ruto urged African leaders to step up their efforts to adapt to climate change as well as to fulfill and implement their agreements.

COP 27 will be held in Egypt at the Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center from Sunday, November 6, to Friday, November 18, 2022. (SHICC).

The conference’s major goal will be to build on prior accomplishments and lay the path for future ambition to successfully address the world’s climate change challenge.
