President elect Ruto Pledges To Lower Price Of Agricultural Products In The Market

 President-elect William Ruto has promised to announce a new reduced prices on unga and the cost of fertilizer products next week after the inauguration ceremony.

Speaking during a thanksgiving interdenominational service at Maua, Meru on Sunday, Ruto said he has communicated to those in charge of agricultural sector which is the backbone of economy to help solve the obvious challenges of inflation and youth unemployment in the country.

“We have had meetings with those in the Ministry of Agriculture and we will announce new fertilizers prices that we would have reduced by next week. We have started a journey of changing the agriculture sector,” the president elect said.

While Ruto during the campaign trail and through the Kenya Kwanza manifesto had promised “bottom up” economic transformation, which targets to promote investments of ordinary Kenyans and empowering them financially with the aim of bridging the widened gap between the rich and poor. His ability in the new government intends to cut off brokers and cartels frustrating farmers.

According to the farmers, the price of agricultural inputs as per now stands as high as over Sh6,500 in a 50kg bag with CAN for top dressing and urea at Sh6,000 and sh7000 per 50 kg bag respectively, leading to shortage and high cost of food in the market.
