Parents of Litein Boys High School have gone to court to fight what they call an unfair and too high Ksh69 million damage fee after recent student unrest. They say the school’s demand is not fair and that there is no clear proof to support the amount.
In their case, the parents say the school has been asking for extra payments every time students cause unrest, forcing them to pay costs that should be handled by the government. They argue that this has made life difficult for many families since public schools already get money from the government.
The parents are also angry that the school wants each student to pay Ksh49,000. They say this amount is too high compared to the real damage caused during the incident. They claim that only one dormitory was partly destroyed and that the repair costs cannot add up to what the school is demanding.
They further say that rebuilding the dormitory and buying new furniture should be paid for using government education funds. Parents’ money, they add, should only go to planned projects, not punishment fees.
Through their lawyers, the parents have also accused the school principal and some teachers of using unrests for personal gain. They want a full check of how money collected in the past was spent.
The case follows protests that broke out at the school in Kericho County on September 21, 2025, leaving part of a dormitory burnt. The court will now decide on a hearing date as parents seek answers and relief from what they call unfair and unnecessary charges.
