ODM Convenes First 2026 Parliamentary Group Meeting to Chart Legislative Agenda

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially kicked off its 2026 political calendar with a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting held at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

The high-level session is being chaired by the party leader, Oburu Oginga, and has brought together ODM senators and Members of the National Assembly from across the country. The meeting marks the first formal strategy session for the party this year and is aimed at aligning its lawmakers on priority legislative and political issues expected to dominate Parliament in the coming months.

Parliamentary Group meetings are crucial forums where parties consolidate their positions on pending bills, national policies, and oversight matters before debates commence in the House.Sources within the party indicate that top on the agenda is strengthening party unity and discipline among members, particularly as Parliament resumes full operations for the 2026 session.

Leaders are also reviewing the party’s performance in the previous year, assessing achievements, challenges, and areas that require renewed focus.Key national concerns including the state of the economy, cost of living, implementation of devolution, and governance reforms are expected to feature prominently in the deliberations.

ODM legislators are reportedly discussing how best to articulate the party’s stance on these issues while ensuring effective representation of their constituents. The PG meeting also provides a platform for the leadership to communicate strategic direction and reinforce coordination between members serving in the National Assembly and those in the Senate.

By harmonising positions early in the year, the party aims to present a united front during parliamentary debates and committee engagements.Political observers note that such early-year meetings are significant in shaping party momentum and messaging.

For ODM, the gathering underscores its intention to remain active and influential within the legislative space throughout 2026.The outcome of the meeting is expected to inform the party’s legislative priorities and guide its engagement on major national matters as the year unfolds.
