Natembeya Flees Malava MP’s Home Amid Pro-Ruto Chants

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya faced a hostile reception on Sunday evening while visiting the home of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi. The Governor, who had gone to console the bereaved family, was forced to leave abruptly after rowdy youth chanted pro-President William Ruto slogans.

Security officers swiftly intervened, escorting Natembeya to safety as tensions escalated. Videos circulating online showed police guarding the Governor’s convoy as it exited the premises amid jeers from the crowd.

Following the incident, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa condemned the disruption, calling for calm and respect during the mourning period. “The late Malulu Injendi was a peace-loving leader. His send-off must be peaceful and dignified,” Barasa stated.

Natembeya, however, dismissed claims that he was ejected from the event. “No one can chase me out of my own turf. Stop this desperate propaganda,” he asserted on social media. A source close to the Governor clarified to TheAfricanWatch.com that he had stepped away to distribute handouts to the youth out of respect for the grieving family, at which point commotion erupted.

This is not the first time Natembeya has faced such hostility. During a burial on January 3, he was heckled after criticizing the government’s inaction on abductions in Western Kenya. In response, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accused him of failing to act on the issue during his tenure as a police commander.

The late Malulu Injendi will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 4, in a ceremony expected to draw leaders across the political spectrum. It remains uncertain whether Natembeya will attend.
