Mumias East MP Peter Salasya Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has officially declared his intention to run for thepresidency in the 2027 General Election, adding his name to the growing list of aspirants eyeing Kenya’s top seat.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, Salasya said his decision followed extensive public consultations and personal reflection.

“Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” he announced.

Salasya cited a “profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership” aimed at driving industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice. He promised to address issues such as labour and talent exports, focusing instead on creating sustainable jobs through innovation and industrialisation.

The youthful legislator also revealed plans to launch a new political party later this year, describing it as a movement that will champion opportunities for all Kenyans, especially youth, women, workers, and entrepreneurs.

“I invite all Kenyans to join me on this journey toward a new dawn. Together, we can build a prosperous, inclusive, and united Kenya,” he urged.

Salasya’s announcement comes amid a flurry of early presidential bids. Opposition figures such as Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Rigathi Gachagua, and Fred Matiang’i have already expressed interest in the race.

In a separate interview, Gachagua emphasized that all aspirants within the opposition would remain in the race until a single flagbearer is chosen.

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and former Chief Justice David Maraga have also declared their ambitions to vie for the presidency in 2027.
