Multiple Feared Dead in Nairobi-Nakuru Bus-Lorry Collision

Several people are feared dead following a tragic early morning accident involving a passenger bus and a lorry transporting bread along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

According to footage obtained by TheAfricanWatch.com, the crash left both vehicles severely damaged, with the front section of the bus completely mangled. The lorry, which was ferrying bread, was also torn apart, with loaves scattered across the road. The bus was reportedly en route from Mombasa to Port Victoria, Kisumu, while the lorry was headed in the opposite direction.

Preliminary reports suggest the collision was head-on, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Rescue operations were ongoing at the scene as of this morning. While an official report on the casualties is yet to be released, unconfirmed accounts indicate that the lorry driver may be among the victims.

This devastating accident occurred just hours after another crash on the night of Friday, April 4, involving a Tahmeed bus and a matatu at the Kibarani Flyover in Mombasa. Witnesses say the Tahmeed bus, which had departed from Mwembe Tayari, developed mechanical problems while climbing a hill. Its brakes reportedly failed, causing it to roll back and collide with a Mikindani matatu from the Miritini Sacco.

One survivor, seated at the back of the matatu, described leaping out moments before impact, narrowly avoiding injury along with a nearby bodaboda rider and passenger.

These incidents come shortly after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) raised concerns over the rising number of road accidents. On Thursday, April 3, NTSA urged stricter enforcement of traffic laws, particularly targeting PSV drivers and conductors, in light of the school holiday travel surge.
