Moses Kuria Challenges Gachagua’s Protest Plans Over Chief Justice Koome

Nairobi – Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his alleged plans to lead protests should Chief Justice Martha Koome be dismissed from office.

On Monday evening, Kuria accused Gachagua of pursuing a selfish political agenda by rallying Mt Kenya residents to protest while other regions focused on development. The former Public Service Cabinet Secretary expressed concern that such demonstrations could endanger the lives of young people from the region.

“I have no problem with anyone advancing their legitimate political goals. But telling young men from my region to come to the streets and get shot dead while other regions are pursuing development is very selfish,” Kuria stated on his X account.

He further challenged Gachagua to protest alongside his own children before mobilizing others. Kuria’s remarks followed Gachagua’s Sunday interview with Kikuyu radio stations, where the former Deputy President pledged to lead mass protests if CJ Koome is removed or arrested.

Gachagua condemned the alleged move to oust Koome, comparing it to his own impeachment. He warned that Mt Kenya leaders would not remain silent if the government targets leaders from their region.

“They want to chase Martha Koome the same way they chased me. We shall not keep quiet again if they remove Martha Koome. We will go out to the streets and close the roads,” Gachagua declared.

He also alleged that President William Ruto’s administration is orchestrating petitions to restructure the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 elections. Gachagua revealed that youths from the region criticized him for advising against protests during his impeachment, pushing him to take a firmer stance this time.
