The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has ordered all gambling companies to first seek approval by submitting their audiovisual advertisements for licensing and classification. This directive follows a presidential order to curb irresponsible betting promotions, even listing gambling firms that operates without approved license.
In a press release dated April 29, 2025, the KFCB instructed betting firms to acquire filming licenses and submit all gambling ads through its Technical Management System (TMS). In the statement, KFCB stressed that no gambling advertisement should air without a Certificate of Approval.
The board also cautioned media houses across the country to refrain from broadcasting unclassified gambling content, in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act (Cap 222), or risk legal action.
The move is part of a broader multi-agency crackdown aimed at protecting vulnerable Kenyan populations, especially minors, from harmful gambling content.
A day before, the government listed about 50 gambling websites that have been running their contents against the law, luring the public to dance into their tunes.
Among the listed betting sites included; famous luckybet.com,chezacrash.com and among others, as listed above.
