Kenya Nominates DCI Chief for Top INTERPOL Position

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially nominated Mohamed Amin, Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), as Kenya’s candidate for the INTERPOL Executive Committee representing Africa.

The nomination was announced during the 11th Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) Council in Nairobi on Friday. Murkomen urged African states to support Amin’s candidacy, describing it as both a national milestone and a chance for the continent to influence international policing policies.

“Amin’s election would allow Kenya and Africa to champion their security priorities on the global stage,” said Murkomen.

The elections will be held at the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly scheduled for November 24–27 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The INTERPOL Executive Committee supervises the execution of decisions made by the General Assembly, oversees INTERPOL operations, and ensures global collaboration on criminal matters. If elected, Amin would serve as Africa’s voice in shaping global policing strategy, especially on issues like terrorism, cross-border crime, and corruption.

Amin, a seasoned law enforcement officer with over 30 years of experience, holds a Master’s degree in Criminology. He has led several high-profile investigations, including cases presented before the International Criminal Court (ICC), and has received numerous state honours including Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), and Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).

Currently serving as head of DCI and overseeing INTERPOL’s Eastern Africa Bureau, Amin is recognised for modernising investigations, promoting ethical standards, and enhancing intelligence sharing. He is widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to community-based policing.

If successful, his election could strengthen Africa’s presence and priorities in global security decision-making forums.
