Detectives have arrested another key suspect linked to the brutal murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were. The suspect, identified as Amos Barasa Kasili, was apprehended in the Kibera Darajani area following an intensive investigation that placed him at the crime scene and connected him to the main perpetrators.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Barasa was the rider of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number KMFZ 413W, used by the assailants to trail the MP’s vehicle on April 30 before using it as a getaway bike after the fatal shooting.
The motorcycle, recovered from Barasa’s possession, matches the one captured by CCTV footage near Parliament, following the MP’s vehicle moments before the attack. During interrogation, Barasa reportedly confessed to his involvement and admitted to receiving Ksh. 50,000 as part of his payment for the crime.
DCI further revealed that Barasa is a known repeat offender who disguises himself as a boda boda operator. He allegedly collaborates with armed gangs in Nairobi and other regions. Investigators also discovered that Barasa has a prior criminal record, including time served at Industrial Area Prison, where he reportedly met other individuals involved in the MP’s murder.
“Profiling the suspect revealed his deep ties to criminal networks and his participation in several violent crimes,” the DCI stated.
Barasa is currently in custody and is being processed for arraignment as detectives continue to pursue all leads into the murder of MP Charles Were.
