EPRA Announces New Fuel Prices for May-June 2025

Nairobi, Kenya –– The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced today that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the period of May 15 to June 14, 2025, providing a sigh of relief for Kenyan consumers grappling with high living costs. The announcement, made at 5:48 PM EAT, maintains current prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene, as reported by local news outlets Mwanzo TV and The Kenya Times via X posts.

In Nairobi, super petrol will stay at Ksh174.63 per litre, diesel at Ksh164.86 per litre, and kerosene at Ksh156.50 per litre, inclusive of 16% VAT as mandated by the Finance Act 2023 and adjusted excise duties. These prices, effective from midnight, aim to stabilize transportation and business costs, which heavily influence the prices of goods and services across the country.

However, some uncertainty surrounds the announcement, as EPRA’s official website has yet to update with the latest figures, and discrepancies exist compared to last month’s prices. For instance, April’s diesel price was Ksh168.58 per litre, suggesting a possible reduction rather than an unchanged rate, while kerosene was Ksh148.99, indicating a potential increase. EPRA has not yet clarified these inconsistencies, prompting calls for consumers to verify prices at local fuel stations.

Regional variations are expected, with Mombasa likely seeing slightly lower prices, such as Ksh173.34 for petrol last period, due to proximity to import points, while inland cities like Kisumu may face higher rates. EPRA’s decision reflects efforts to cushion Kenyans against global oil market volatility, but stakeholders await official confirmation to ensure compliance and transparency.
