Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo was summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, December 16, over alleged inflammatory remarks made during a church service the previous day. Ngogoyo had criticised the government, urging the President to focus on fulfilling his promises rather than intimidating critics.
Ngogoyo appeared at the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road but did not record a statement. Speaking to the media after the session, he condemned the summons, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. The legislator linked the move to his association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“If this is an attempt to intimidate us for supporting the former Deputy President, I’m sorry, but I have made my stand,” Ngogoyo stated. He vowed to continue expressing his views on national issues without fear, emphasizing his commitment to societal welfare.
The MP also criticised the government’s mandatory cattle immunisation program, arguing that it should be optional for livestock keepers.
Accompanied by Kajiado Senator, Ngogoyo received further support as the Senator called on the President to honor his pledge of protecting citizens from state harassment. “The government must adopt alternative methods of addressing concerns rather than using the DCI to intimidate Kenyans,” the Senator urged.
This summoning comes just weeks after Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa was called by Nyeri DCI over disturbances at a Limuru funeral attended by Gachagua.
Ngogoyo’s case has reignited debate about the government’s alleged misuse of investigative agencies to silence dissenting voices, drawing criticism from opposition leaders and civil rights groups.
