Juja, Kenya – Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has finally spoken out from his hospital bed, offering a chilling account of his alleged abduction, which occurred on May 25. His disappearance sparked a political storm, with some quarters accusing him of faking the incident for political mileage.
Speaking to the press, Koimburi dismissed the claims, narrating how he was abducted shortly after attending a church service at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya. According to the MP, a group of unknown assailants blindfolded and drugged him before dragging him away.
“It was May 25. I had just left church when goons covered my eyes and drugged me through my nose,” Koimburi recounted. He said he lost consciousness, only to wake up the next day dumped in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County.
A boda boda rider found him and contacted his family, who rushed him to hospital. The legislator condemned the incident, decrying the rising cases of abductions and torture in Kenya. “I urge Kenyans to pray for our country. The government must act; we cannot allow such impunity to continue,” he said.
However, the authenticity of the abduction remains under scrutiny. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja accused Koimburi of stage-managing the incident, citing inconsistencies uncovered during the interrogation of suspects linked to the case.
The MP, a known ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited him in hospital on May 26, maintains he was a victim. His statement has reignited debate on forced disappearances and security lapses in the country, with growing calls for an independent investigation to determine the truth.
